Gas Regulators: The Gauges, Hoses, and Knobs

Gas cylinders safely hold natural gases in their liquid state. To get them dispelled in their gaseous state, a regulator would do the trick. There are a variety of regulators per gas type to choose from. It can be confusing at times, as some gas applications may require something other than your everyday basic regulator. What if you need a hose or a gauge to look at? Sometimes a regulator may potentially work only on specific types of gas tanks.

If you’re looking for a certain regulator with certain accessories attached, we’ll help you by taking a look at a few common regulators and the features that are sometimes included with them. Each one has their own unique applications, functions, and purposes.

Regulators with Gauges

Some regulators have one gauge, some have two. Regardless, you will always have a gauge displaying outlet pressure, which is the gas coming out of the valve. If your regulator has two display gauges, the second one will read the inlet pressure, that’s gas pressure going into the tank. If you’re using a dual gauge regulator, chances are it’ll have the ability to bring pressure into and out of your gas cylinder. Though, even if your regulator doesn’t have a display gauge in any form, they will always still at least have the ability to output gas pressure, which is the point of any gas regulator.

This is usually the go-to gas regulator, even if you may not necessarily need to measure gas pressure.

Regulator Safety Knobs

Some of the more basic regulators will have pressure control in the form of a little screw. Others will come equipped with a knob that allows for better and more precise pressure control.

Most of these knobs are meant for protection against any potential damage to the regulator itself. It allows for a more durable and stronger gas regulator with shock-absorbing technology. Why the shock-absorption? Simply put, it’ll prevent damage to the regulator in case something were to bang into it or if the tank itself were to tip over and fall. The impact of a damaged gas tank can sometimes lead to gas leaking out of the regulator.

The interior material is powerful enough to take the blow of a damaged or mishandled gas tank. The safety knob channels the impact toward the rim of the knob. This keeps it away from the center, which is where the regulator and tank nozzle align to get the gas flowing. A dent in that smooth flow can easily break heavy the duty material, sometimes to the point where it can explode.

It’s actually not a bad idea to use one, especially if you’re looking to be as safe as possible while using a gas tank. If safety is any of your concern, you may also want to practice safe gas handling procedures, including the use of PPE and safety gas equipment.

Regulator Connector Hoses

The purpose of the hose is to get your desired gas pressure transferred to other sources. Need gas to get from the cylinder to a separate appliances, and equipment Some devices, may not necessarily need a regulator, but a hose would definitely be necessary. A perfect example of this: outdoor gas grills! With a hose, you can get the gas in your LPG tank to heat your grill in no time! Are you into homebrewery? Take your keg along with your gas tank, bring them together with the hose, and you can force carbonate some craft beer.

Actually, there are tons of other unique uses for a hose than just use in the food and drink industry. In a party setting or a music festival, you may see a variety of special effects actively firing away onstage. Especially at a rock concert or an EDM festival, cryo effects involve chilling smoke blasts by having a cryo jet onstage, a CO2 tank somewhere backstage, and the hose itself discretely connecting the two together. There are even handheld versions of this where you hold a cryo effects gun in your hand and carry the CO2 tank in a backpack. The gas hose will connect them together so you can have all the fun you want shooting chilly smoke at the crowd!

We Can Help

While we are known for our gas delivery and rental services (especially in the entertainment industry), we do carry a few of the regulators we had discussed earlier at our online store. If needed, gas adapters and some safety handling equipment can be found there too. They’re important for a proper and safe operation of any gas tank, and are also recommended by OSHA regulations to use one. Feel free to see what other parts and equipment we have in store too.
